restored old eames chair rip off..

my wife always wanted to own an eames chair, but they are a bit out of our price range.
Recently while in a second hand shop we saw an eames rip off in horrible shape.

well picked up some marine grade vinyl,
and decided black was a better fit for our living room.
removed all the cushions, and took them in to be recovered.

here it is all recovered and nice and recovered.

we did all this on the cheap, and it looks really really neato!!
hope you like.

replacing glides on old herman miller chairs..

..i started this blog to comment on cool old stuff, but find myself working on

my wife bought some Herman Miller shell chairs, but the feet or "glides" were all broken off.

i searched online for how to replace them, but could not find a nice step by step walk thru on how to do it with pictures, so i made on here.

start with broken old glide:

step one:
order some new glides(we got ours on ebay):

step 2:
pull off plastic sleeve, remember twisting back and forth helps allot here

step 3:
using pliers pry the wire and the metal stopper out
looks like i need to clean up some of this rust too :)

what worked best for me was prying it up and down
using the bottom of the chair as a lever

step 4 replace glide:
i used a hammer and had no problems getting em in there

and here it is all replaced, and not scratching our floor :)

hope this was helpful to somebody out there!!
